This week’s Midweek Madness is friggin epic. Quite honestly if you don’t already own altitude… You need to. In the wake of last week’s Wings of Prey flying fiasco, I have to advise you to by this game. Not only is it one of the only half-way decent flying games on steam, but it’s easily one of the most fun games on steam. Check my profile. See all that time I’ve chocked up. THAT’S JUST TODAY… AT WORK… I plan on playing the hell outta this one, it’s addictive as shit, and at a full two dollars… you should to.

Anyways, you should probably do what I did. For the full price of just altitude you can, for the next few days, get seven indie titles. Most of which look decent. So splurge now, cause it’s hard to beat a 7 for 1 deal.

So there’s three games on sale this week and there all up for grabs. The three games are as follows:

1. Wings of Prey 50% off

This is the ACTUAL mid-week madness for this week and admittedly I was initially looking forward to this game. I was always a fan of dog-fighting games and don’t have one on steam… that I can remember.

However, after learning that this game not only have a three install limit, entirely unsuitable for a system builder, but also requires the installation of a seperate game client to run… I’m out. Maybe if this game drops below the $15 mark I could endorse it, but until then it’s a no-buy from me.

2. Serious Sam HD 50% off

This is the game you should be looking to buy. It’s actually on sale until march 2nd, so you can even wait for your check if you have to. Unfortunately I purchased this back in the Christmas sale, so I’ve no real reason to buy it now. But if you’ve missed out on the gem in the past, Now is the perfect time to hop on board the Sam-wagon. Old skool gameplay, new skool graphics… What’s not to love!

3. Hammer Fight 50%

If, like me, you already own Serious Sam perhaps you should be looking a little lower. Like at this Indie Gem. Hammer fight seems simple, and probably is, but thats exactly what I need on my laptop. Simple but fun games that can run on my core duo with integrated graphics. I’m picking this one up as a distraction from work.

Oh a helpful hint, Hammerfight is on sale this week, but the whole KranX pack is available for only $9.99 The usual cost of hammer fight alone. Personally, I’m gonna go this route. 3 games for the price of 1? I’m in.

Well if you don’t know by now, you might not even care. But Steam, the number one digital distribution platform for games, has just completely updated their user interface.

Why does this matter? Because it’s sick! They’ve gone all web 2.0 and I personally think that’s a good thing. Currently the new interface is still in beta, so you have to opt-in using the settings menu in your steam client. I strongly suggest you do.

We’ve all had that occasional weekend spree, ya know the kind. It’s raining/snowing outside, you’ve just managed to get a copy of that new game, and there’s nothing at all on TV. In a situation like that it’s more than acceptable to rack up 24hrs in a weekend, hell it’s respectable.

But then there’s the games, the true time vampires of the video game world, which suck the very soul from you when your away from them. This is a list of those very games, the very games which have, according to my x fire profile, leeched the most moments from my life.

5. Fallout 3
fallout

Honestly I’m surprised to see this game is only number 5. I feel I’ve lived vicariously in the shoes of the wasteland wanderer more even than I’ve lived my own life… Albeit that’s impossible, but you get the picture. With all there is to do and see in this game, it’s hard for me to put it down Once I start playing.

Mass Effect on Steam is 50% of for Steam’s Weekend Deal. Personally I have NO experience with this game, so I’m hard pressed to offer any advice. The steam forum for the game however seems to be thrilled by the sale and saying that it’s well worth the $9.99 price tag it temporarily totes. Ultimately my advice is to pounce if you’ve been waiting or just have nothing else to play, otherwise save up for one of the other great games that’s come out recently.

Edit: Got around to playing it this morning… Kinda like a halo/rpg hybrid. Ultimately I would say pass on this one, the interface is just to hectic.

GRID™ on Steam. Is 50% off this weekend, So If you’ve been living under a rock or just haven’t had a chance to see what a modern racing game can be these days, PICK THIS ONE UP NOW!

Admittedly I’m not crazy about race games, I played some Gran Turismo 2 back in the day, and I still rather enjoy some Flat Out… but this game is just fantastic. The graphics are 9/10 at worst, the control is 8/10 at worst and the fun factor is 7/10 at worst, which really says alot considering I Don’t usally enjoy racing games.

I’m immediatly headed to the bank to drop some money in my account for this.

Peace,

Fallout 3 on Steam is 50% off this weekend, and I highly recommend you pick up a copy.

If you’ve got any kind of patience for your video games, then fallout 3 is for you. It’s not your average FPS though, so don’t be fooled. This is more like an FP-RP-S or First Person Role Playing Shooter, and it does take some time to ramp up.

I’ll be combing my couch cushions however, just trying to scrap some change together and pick up fallout 3, It’s that good. Oh and for skills, I’d suggest: Repair, Small Arms, and Medicine.

Peace,

Left 4 Dead  50% off on Steam.

Right now on steam you can pick up a copy of valves newest hit “Left 4 Dead” at an alarming 50% off. I must say I had avoided buying this game up until this point, solely because of its’ cost… I cant really just ify $50 for a game unless it happens to strike me in just a certain way.

From what I understand so far, this game is essential a little bit Man Hunt mixed with a little bit resident evil, multiplayer. Anyways, I’ll probably purchuse before the weekends out, and will try to post my review accordingly. If you own the game, why not buy a friend a copy, cause “it’s the zombie apocalypse, so you’d better bring friends…”

~peace, Zypher

EDIT:

been playing the game since work, it is pretty fun… I’m kinda running out of stuff to try in single player, but hopefully some mod packs exist out there. Multi-player is fun, and offers a great team-work experience, I’ll be working it into my regiment pretty soon.

Overall its a new valve game, which isn’t bad. It’s not the most inovative game on the market by far, but what it does do, it does right and that means a lot. If you don’t own this game, I’d still suggest picking it up, especially at 50% off.

PS- Watching the zombies fold over with awesome ragdoll effects is quit3e possible my favorite part.

Is offering up older games in a seemingly very steam-like fashion.

So far their catalog is pretty small, but since their only in beta, can you really blame them? Anyways they have classics like Fallout 1&2 and unreal 1&2 (and unreal tournament gold) which everyone should own.

personally, I’m not yet confident in buying too much from them. I mean, with the way law suits are thrown around, it’s likely only a matter of time before they come under fire.  Still if they manage to survive, it’ll be a welcome addition to my default installation package when I’m setting up my next PC.

You can also wait longingly for your favorite games by following them on twitter: twitter.com/gogcom

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas 2 on Steam.

vegas 2

It’s now $9.99 or 50% off until january 20th (it’s the current weekend deal) I’m installing the game now and will update this post to review status once I’ve gone hands on.

I’ve gotta say it’s looking good though. I was a wicked fan of the original Rainbow Six game, and it’s expansion rainbow Six: Eagle Watch, but that was way before I had a high-speed connection, and even before I had a “graphics card”, so as long as Vegas 2 can successfully carry the mantle of it’s fore-fathers, I see no issues and am issueing a strict “GO! GO! GO!” (a little CT humor) on buying this game.

Will edit once the verdict is in!

Edit: Sorry I couldn’t get back to you guys on this game sooner… I was addicted! while I at first wasn’t sure the game was for me, seemed like a lot of trouble (not killing hostages, defusing bombs, etc.) once I realized what terrorist hunt was, I was elated! you can pit yourself against a house full of enemies and just go nuts! and terorist hunt adds to your total xp, which is used to unlock new guns and equipment… man, this games deffinitly worth ten bucks, and it’s probably worth the twenty it is when it’s not on sale. For now though, only get this game if your not playing anything else.

Also, since I happend to be on my vista install when I bought the game, I’m running it on vista, and though the system requirements for vista are kind of high, 2048MB RAM Radeon HD 3850 and above, I don’t meet either of those (1.5GB’s RAM Radeon 3650) and it runs flawlessly on high settings.

Peace, I’m gonna go take down some tango’s!
